Mole Valley Ramblers

- friendly walking in the heart of Surrey

Submitting your walks

We plan our walks programme on a month by month basis, using Google Sheets for submitting walk details and Walks Manager for publishing walks. The key date for leaders is to enter their monthly walk details into the Google Sheet (and Walks Manager, see below) by the 8th of the preceding month.

The walks are divided into three categories, each with their own Coordinator, as follows:

Leisurely   Lizann P   This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Moderate  Andy W This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Whole Day    Rob T This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

There is an overall Walks Programme Coordinator who liaises closely with our Webmaster in publishing each completed monthly programme. A password-protected webpage (available to approved Walk Leaders) containing links to all the current Google Sheets can be found here.

On the Submission Sheets you will find a tab called Help for Leaders, which will guide you in how to submit walks, so please familiarise yourself with that. If you have any questions about walks you wish to offer, or how to enter details into Walks Manager, please contact the relevant Coordinator. If you are unable to enter walk details on the Google Sheets, you can email them to the Coordinator, who will then enter them on your behalf.

Walks Programme Procedures

We have summarised the procedures we use in a separate document - you can access the latest version here.

Publishing walks

From 31 May 2023, Ramblers introduced a new walks publication system called Walks Manager. This allows Walk Leaders to enter their walk details directly on to the system. Further guidance about how to use Walks Manager has been circulated to all MVR walk leaders. If you are able to do that, we do not need the full details of your walk on the Google Sheet as well. You could just enter date, time, length, location (ie area of walk), name of leader, and mark if Strenuous.

Some leaders may prefer that others do the Walks Manager (WM) submission on their behalf, in which case you will need to put full details of the walk on the Google Sheet and message the relevant Coordinator to ask them to enter on to WM.

Our walks programme editors will check over walk details, and, in conjunction with the Webmaster, publish the walks on a monthly basis. This enables people to find our walks through the main Ramblers "Walk finder" search facility, as well as via the Walks Filter on this website, and the Ramblers app.

Walks Manager

Walks Manager is the Ramblers portal for publishing walk details. Once published, this information is available on the Mole Valley website and the Ramblers website and App.

Walk Leaders with a Ramblers Login and appropriate permissions can access Walks Manager at https://walks-manager.ramblers.org.uk/walks-manager.

Instructions on how to use Walks Manager are available here.

Adding walks outside the monthly timetable

There may be occasions when a leader wishes to add an extra walk after the monthly deadline. This is possible, provided the leader is willing to enter all the details on WM, and the walk is Open (ie non-bookable).

Please contact the relevant Coordinator (and copy in the full team) by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

The Lead Coordinator can then Publish the walk and arrange for it to be added to the Walks Log Sheet by notifying This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Cancellations

Mole Valley Ramblers walk in most weather conditions but occasionally, at the discretion of the leader, walks might have to be cancelled because of bad weather (excessive wind, floods or heavy snow and ice), or because of illness.

If you know a day or more in advance that you need to cancel a walk, please contact the This email address is being protected from spambots. If you have to cancel on the day please tell the relevant Coordinator and, if possible, arrange for someone to go to the starting point to tell any prospective walkers who turn up for the walk.
