White Peak in the Peak District

Dear Mole Valley Ramblers,

Another holiday with MVR is on offer for 2027: a week in the Peak District, 4-11 June, in the southern White Peak area, based around Hartington.

It will be up to individuals to book their own accommodation either for a few days or the whole week, enabling a range of self-catering options in cottages, lodges, or camping. We can offer some suggestions.
There is also a YHA hostel at Hartington, with rooms (shared or private), cabins and tents. 

This formula has worked well in the past, allowing for flexibility according to budgets, needs of those with dogs, and for those who prefer to self-cater separately, as well as scope for fun together during the walks and in the evenings, with options for shared meals some days, and other social events.

The plan will be to offer a choice of walks each day, subject to the availability of leaders, all Moderate grade, with some around 6 miles and others stretching to 7-10 miles. It will also be a chance for new people to try their hand at walk planning and leading, along with the core of experienced leaders who will be on the holiday.

We have booked a set of six adjacent cottages at Cotterill Farm, and there is some spare capacity there. Each cottage has two bedrooms, shared (or, in some, separate) bathrooms, and its own kitchen. We have stayed there before and know that sharing meals outside can work well. You can walk directly from the site to Biggin Dale and Upper Dovedale.
