Walk Leaders Courses

Walk leaders are the life blood of our group. We have a fantastic team of highly experienced leaders, but we need to keep a continuous flow of new leaders to maintain and develop our programme. Maybe you have recently joined us and are keen to get to know the area better by planning walks, or maybe you have been walking for some time and have never been quite sure about having the confidence to lead on your own. We can help by putting you in touch with a buddy or you may find one yourself whilst out on a walk.

There is also the chance of going on a walk leaders course run by Surrey Area Ramblers at Wotton, near Dorking. The training comprises a morning session on leadership, walk planning, map reading and basic compass work, followed by an afternoon outdoor practical session. There is no obligation to go on a course before you start leading, but the feedback from previous participants has been extremely positive.  For example:

"The speakers and walk leaders were all good and very clear and with a good sense of humour which is important; very professionally done." ...

"Made me feel confident that I could lead a walk and also learning how to use a compass in conjunction with a map" ...

"Going out walking and putting the theory into practice was invaluable".

Fiona Spencer helps by managing the administration of these courses, and you are welcome to talk to her if you have any questions. We have had several Mole Valley Ramblers attend, and we very much hope more will book on to future courses.  For information about future course dates and how to apply, please go to the Surrey Ramblers website and follow the instructions for "Walk Leader Training".
